How "Facebook" Was Written

It truly all started by fucking around with an autotune app…

i wrote that on a night that i was underslept, a little sad, and underwhelmed by a salad i had eaten for dinner. i mean seriously, a sad salad for -dinner-? horrible state of affairs. but, that night i was off to one of my favorite venues ‘the basement’ to see one of my favorite bands ‘the mute group’ release their new record. that was nice.

i definitely didn’t dwell on that silly little video, but that melody got stuck in my head, and months later i decided to see it through as a proper demo using some lyrics i had written about facebook stalking.

aaron heard my first go at it, and kind of went like, “ah…i see what you’re trying to do here.” and with that, he edited the chords to be way more dramatic and congealed. once that happened, i was just like ‘damn’. it seemed so clear what the vibe was gonna be at that point. had to put my RD-8 on it. (808 drums)

i got to writing some other parts to this song, and i remember being a little nervous at how disparate they felt from each other. i was surprised to find that aaron was really into it, and recommend i lean into it to make the vibes even -more- disparate from each other

taking that advice, i came up with this - which -STILL- wasn’t as disparate as aaron was recommending! he kept pushing me until we reached the final version, which is positively scatterbrained in the best way.
