Day 4: OFFA UR PHONE

VLOG #4

LYRICS:

There comes a time in every single life where electricity don’t come to you
There comes a time in every single life where synchronicity don’t seem so true
You get nervous, you fuck it up, tell your tarot reader that it’s their fault
You’re in denial, you know that you’re stuck in the ground

I dunno!
Is what you yell to the sky
I dunno!
A millenial cry
I dunno!
Is what you yell to the sky

Who are you really though?
Who are you really when you’re sad and off of your phone?
Who are you really though?
Who are you really when you’re sad and off of your phone?

Just ‘cause you’re chemical don’t stir the pot don’t mean I’m basic PH debunked it
Mysoginistic and a flaming head, yeah, surely that will do the fucking trick
We’re not perfect, we’re all a mess, bet you kinda liked that Tim Burton film
You’re in denial, you know that you’re stuck in the ground

I dunno!
Is what you yell to the sky
I dunno!
A millenial cry
I dunno!
Is what you yell to the sky

Who are you really though?
Who are you really when you’re sad and off of your phone?
Who are you really though?
Who are you really when you’re sad and off of your phone?

There comes a time in every single life where electricity don’t come to you
There comes a time in every single life where synchronicity don’t seem so true
You get nervous, you fuck it up, tell your tarot reader that it’s their fault
You’re in denial, you know that you’re stuck in the ground

I dunno!

PODCAST

Here's an interview that was recorded while I was on tour in April of 2018. I talk about how Zelda influenced me, how you can empower yourself no matter your situation, and synesthesia!

Journal Entry #4: People's Hidden Identity

The impetus of this song came from a fairly simple thought - why do people put themselves in boxes?

It's a cliche at this point, but it's such an interesting thing to examine. In a way, it's HARDER to keep yourself in a box than it is to let loose and like the things you like. From my view, these people that aggressively typecast themselves into a strict archetype - there's NO WAY that they actually ONLY like the things they say that their sliver of culture allows.

I thought about how much lying must be going on.

I imagined someone who was 'too cool' to admit that The Nightmare Before Christmas made them feel anything. Life is definitely not that discretely black and white. We have at least light opinions on everything - everything affects us a little bit. To totally oust a certain kind of culture because it doesn't fit into the strict culture you've built for yourself is such a harsh lie, in my view!

That's where this song came from. I wanted people to hear this and confront the fact that - yeah - that David Lynch movie did move you in some kind of way, but you can't admit it to yourself.

I imagined what psyche this kind of character might have. I figured they wouldn't be able to own up to anything - hence blaming a tarot card reader for their own demise. I figured they'd be living on their phone as a means of not having to confront the mundanity of their life and the inevitable depression it would deliver once it catches up to them.

I loved the concept of "I dunno" being a hook. "I dunno" is such the mantra of my generation. We 'dunno' anything these days. And what's interesting is that 'dunno' is trendy. We welcome 'dunno'. It means we don't have to answer. It's a neat, stoic indifference.

'dunno' makes it cool to not be able to confront who you are so that you don't have to provide answers to emotional questions.
